New Outlook Search Bar Not Working

outlook-crash

They did it again. Microsoft updated outlook (and moved) the search bar. Now search is broken for some.

If you’re still reading and didn’t ditch outlook for something else, there is an easy work around.

When you see the message “Something went wrong and your search couldn’t be completed” hit the link directly below that says “Lets look on your computer instead”

The message is a little misleading as “Look on your computer” is really search outlook on your computer, not the entire computer.

We’re looking into a permanent fix, but until then, you can find those emails and get on with your life!

*UPDATE*

Still no permanent fix but a better workaround. Add the following registry entries which has worked well for many users.

• Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Search
• Value name: DisableServerAssistedSearch
• Value type: REG_DWORD
• Value: 1

• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Search
• Value name: DisableServerAssistedSearch
• Value type: REG_DWORD
• Value: 1
